Issue 1 Editorial Brief
Issue 1 of the Alder Quay Bulletin is planned for Thursday, 5 November 2026. This is Leila Chen’s editorial brief for a concise email and matching two-page print edition. The three candidate items below are not verified announcements yet: each needs a named source, a current fact check, and a clear reader action before it can be published.
Proposed running order
- This Fortnight — Library repair café: Ask the library to confirm the proposed 12 November event, start and end times, location, cost, access details, and its preferred public contact for changes. If the event is not confirmed by copy lock, replace it with a verified library notice rather than inventing specifics.
- People & Places — Community garden: Request a short update from the garden coordinator about the season’s work and whether newcomers can attend a volunteer session. Confirm any date, equipment requirement, or invitation. Obtain explicit permission for a named quotation or photo; an anonymous summary is acceptable if consent is unclear.
- Useful Notice — Community-hall hours: Get the revised opening hours, effective date, and exception or holiday guidance directly from the hall manager. Print the confirmation route next to the notice so a reader can check for last-minute changes.
Copy standard
Each item should answer what changed, who it affects, when and where it happens, and how to check or take the next step. Attribute service facts to the organization that supplied them. Keep claims modest: the Bulletin reports an approved notice, not an endorsement from every Alder Quay resident. Use plain headings, meaningful link text, and image-independent facts. Do not publish a contributor’s private phone number or add a photograph merely to fill space.
Editorial and production handoff
- Leila, by 8 October: Agree the three sections, the contribution invitation, and the permission wording for names, quotations, and images.
- Leila, by 19 October: Collect draft items with source names, verification dates, and public confirmation routes; remove any unsupported claim.
- Tomas, by 26 October: Assemble the email and two-page print proof from approved draft copy; retain one ledger of source and consent status.
- Imani, by 26 October: Read both proofs on a phone and at actual print size; flag unclear headings, contrast problems, and essential facts hidden in images.
- Leila, by 2 November: Resolve corrections and approve the exact release version. Tomas may prepare a team-only test send, but must not send publicly before approval.
Decision if space or evidence runs short
Protect the verified date, place, access information, and correction route before a long feature. Drop an unconfirmed garden invitation or hall-hours claim rather than presenting it as settled. Tomas should log the final changes, and the Meetings & Decisions branch should record any editorial change that alters the previously agreed issue direction. At the 12 November review, the team will check replies, corrections, print pickup feedback, and access problems before planning issue two.
