I already had the idea, so I started designing. FI3LD went through five major versions before reaching the final design you are seeing now—and there is probably still more work to do.

How FI3LD Works

What you are reading right now is the file you currently have open. In this case, it is a text file.

At the top, you will find the file header. Use it to switch between files or edit the file you are currently viewing.

Path and Recents

Path

The path is located in the top-left corner. It shows the sequence of files you need to follow to reach the file that is currently open.

To the left of the path, you will find the button that opens the Map.

Recents

Recents is located in the top-right corner. It displays the files you have opened most recently.

To the right of Recents, you will find the button for clearing your recent files.

The item furthest to the right in the path—or furthest to the left in Recents—is always the file that is currently open.

Windows

The bottom bar of the file header contains the available windows. These change depending on the file you are viewing and the permissions you have.

Because you are viewing a file that does not belong to you, you will only be able to access visibility-related options.

• Drag a window to move it around the screen.
• Move it to either side of the screen to pin it there.

Search an Action

This is where FI3LD becomes the fastest editor available.

Instead of opening windows to perform actions or switch between files, use a keyboard shortcut to search for any action directly.
