28 September Planning: Issue 1 Decisions

Map

28 September 2026 — planning check-in. Leila Chen, Tomas Reed, and Imani Brooks reviewed possible material for the Alder Quay Bulletin’s 5 November first issue. The group chose a working direction, not three already-approved announcements. Leila retains final editorial authority under the kickoff decision.

Decisions made

The issue will use three short sections: This Fortnight, People & Places, and Useful Notice. Each must let a reader answer what happened, who it affects, when and where, and what to do next. The team kept these candidates subject to direct confirmation:

  1. Library repair café — This Fortnight. Leila will ask the library whether the proposed 12 November event is going ahead and confirm its time, location, cost, access details, and a public route for changes. If it cannot be confirmed by copy lock, use a different verified library notice.
  2. Community-garden update — People & Places. Leila will seek a current update from the garden coordinator and check whether newcomers are actually invited. A named quotation or image needs explicit permission; an unattributed summary is preferable to guessing at consent.
  3. Revised community-hall hours — Useful Notice. Leila will obtain the effective date, actual hours, exceptions, and public confirmation route from the hall manager. No private contact number goes into the issue.

The group also decided that an attractive layout cannot rescue missing facts. Tomas will keep essential information as readable text in both formats, while Imani will check whether a reader can act on each notice without relying on an image. Print distribution remains conditional on venue approval and the £120 ceiling set at kickoff.

Actions before copy lock

  • Leila, by 8 October: Confirm the three sections and send each organization a specific fact-check request; record who is authorized to approve its notice.
  • Tomas, by 12 October: Report responses from the proposed print pickup points and a quote, without promising an unapproved venue in draft copy.
  • Leila, by 19 October: Deliver candidate items with source, verification date, consent status, and a usable reader action. Substitute or drop any item still unsupported.
  • Tomas and Imani, by 26 October: Build and review the email and two-page print proofs; log exact accessibility and factual corrections.
  • Leila, by 2 November: Resolve open questions and approve the exact final version, or hold publication of the affected item.

Decisions still open

The library has not yet confirmed the repair café, the garden coordinator has not confirmed a volunteer invitation, and the hall has not supplied approved hours. Tomas has not yet confirmed either print pickup point. These remain open tasks, not settled facts. At the 12 November post-launch review, the team will compare reader replies, corrections, access issues, and unused print copies before setting Issue 2 priorities.
